Classification of textile fibres, Essential and desirable properties. Types of yarns and Concepts of polymerisation

Natural cellulosic fibres:

Cotton: History and introduction, Major Cotton producing countries. Cultivation and harvesting. Botanical and commercial classification. Cotton grading, Characteristics of Indian cotton varieties, Morphological and Polymer Structure, Physical and Chemical properties, Outline sequence of spinning machines and uses of Cotton, New developments.

Bast Fibres:

Jute: Introduction, Jute seed, Agro-metrology and retting, fibre composition and mesh structure of jute, properties of jute fibres, conversion of jute fibre to products , Uses of jute. Flax: Cultivation, retting, properties, uses.
