UNIT-I ELECTRIC FUNDAMENTALS

Definition of Current, Voltage- EMF, Resistance. State and derive Ohm’s Law and its limitations, Circuit conditions – open, close and short circuit, Kirchhoff’s voltage and current laws, Power and Energy definition and their units and related simple problems, study about Meters to measure Current, Voltage, Power and Energy.

UNIT-II ELECTROMAGNETISM

Magnetic field, Magnetic Flux, Magnetic Flux density, MMF, Reluctance and their units. Permeability, B-H curve Faraday’s Laws of Electro Magnetic induction, statically and dynamically induced EMF, self and mutual induced EMF.
Transformers-construction &working, application, ratings.

UNIT -IV PASSIVE COMPONENTS

Definition: Passive and active components.

Resistors: Specification of resistors. Classification of resistors based on construction and their features, fixed and variable resistors, linear and logarithmic potentiometer, Colour coding, principle of operation and applications of LDR, VDR and Thermistor.

Capacitors: Specifications of Capacitors. Classification of Capacitors based on dielectric materials and applications.

Inductors: Specifications of inductors. Classification based on core and frequency, Applications of Inductors.

Simple problems on calculation of Resistance, capacitance and inductance connected in series and Parallel using colour code and meter method

UNIT-V SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES

Conductors, insulators and semiconductors with examples, Intrinsic and Extrinsic Semi-conductors, Operation and V-I characteristics of PN junction diode and zener diode, Working of Half wave, full wave and bridge rectifier circuits, Filters- Types of filters, Pi Filters, Transistor – symbol, types, configurations, Input and output Characteristics of CE config, applications, Transistor as a switch. Transistor as an amplifier.

  1. Collect the specifications of at least 10 electronic components such as diode, transistor etc. and at least 10 electronics applications such as RPS, UPS etc
  2. Design a Adopter for the portable sound recorder with required specification
