Knowledge: Basic concepts of Chemistry in Secondary Education.

Course Objectives:

To provide practical knowledge about the Basics of preparation of chemical solutions and qualitative and quantitative analysis of chemical compounds.

QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS: (18 HRS)

Semi micro-analysis of Anions of Inorganic salts containing: Carbonate, bicarbonate, Chloride, Nitrate and Sulphate radicals.

QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS: (60 HRS)

Volumetric Analysis by Titrimetric Method:-

Volumetric Analysis – Titration – Standard solutions , concentration of solutions- normal, molar and molal solutions – decinormal, decimolar and decimolal solutions – indicators -acidbase indicators and redox indicators-selection of indicators -endpoint of titration -neutralization and redox reactions.

I. Preparation of standard solution of Known concentration: 18 Hrs

  1. Preparation of 0.1N Oxalic acid
  2. Preparation of 0.1N sodium Carbonate solution
  3. Preparation of 0.1N Potassium Dichromate solution
  4. Preparation of 0.1N NaOH Solution
  5. Preparation of 0.1N HCl solution
  6. Preparation of 0.1N Sulphuricacid
  7. Preparation of 0.1N Mohr’s salt solution.
  8. Preparation of 0.1N Potassium permanganate solution.

II. Standardization of solutions:- 18 Hrs

  1. Determination of normalityof given NaOH solution using standard decinormal oxalic acid solution.
  2. Determination of normality of given HCl solution using decinormal sodium Carbonate solution.
  3. Determination of normality of NaOH solution using decinormalHCl solution.
  4. Determination of normality of given potassium permanganate solution using decinormal oxalic acid solution.
  5. Determination of normality of given Mohr’s salt solution using decinormal Potassium dichromate solution (Internal Indicator).

III. Estimation of amount of substance in 250cm3 of its solution by link solution. 24Hrs

  1. Estimation of mass of HCl in 250 cm3of its solution using standardNaOH solution which is standardized by decinormal oxalic acid solution.
  2. Estimation of mass of NaOHin 250cm3 of its solution using standard HCl solution which is standardized by decinormal Na2CO3.
  3. Estimation of mass of oxalic acid in 250cm3of its solution using standard NaOH solution which is standardized by decinormalHCl solution.
  4. Estimation of mass of Mohr’s salt in 250cm3 of its solution using standard KMnO4 solution, which is standardized by decinormal oxalic acid solution
  5. Estimation of mass of KMnO4in 250cm3of its solution using standard Mohr’s salt solution, which is standardized by decinormal K2Cr2O7 Solution.
