UNIT I: INTRODUCTION TO SECURITY PRINTING 09 HRS

Need for security documents, packages, Labels and cards (ID and transaction cards), protection from counterfeiters, forgers, fraudsters, criminals and terrorists.

UNIT II: TYPES OF SECURITY PRINTING DEVICES AND TECHNOLOGIES 08 HRS

Overt- Integrated in the documents, covert- they can be machine readable or special optical aids, Water marks, void photographs, guilloches or fine line security patterns, digital watermarks, fake water marks, variable line thickness, ghost water marks, draped lines, double take, logo dot, micro text Optical variable image device, holograms, kin grams, excel grams, pixel grams. Iridescent optically variable device, Inks and subtracts, colour shifting inks, Non- iridescent optical variable device, metameric ink pairs, latent images or tilt images.

UNIT III: CHARACTERISTICS OF SECURITY PRINTING PAPER AND TYPES OF HOLOGRAMS 07 HRS

UNIT IV : CHARACTERISTICS OF SECURITY PRINTING INKS 13 HRS

Anti duplication security inks – trade mark colours, metallic ink, conventional fluorescent inks, visible/ daylight- invisible inks , visible fluorescent inks and invisible UV- fluorescent inks, magnetic (ink / toner), colour shifting inks, bleeding ink, coin reactive ink, heat reactive irreversible ink, infrared(IR) black ink, metameric pairs ink, bleed through & penetrating numbering ink, electro chromic ink, pen reactive ink, photo chromic ink, thermo chromic ink, fugitive ink-solvent chemical fugitive ink, water fugitive ink, anti alteration security ink, erasable ink.

UNIT V: PREPRESS FOR SECURITY PRINTING , PROTOCOLS, STANDARDS & RISK MANAGEMENT 05 HRS

Introduction to Security patterns, warning bands, phantom logos and images, prismatic colour blending, micro printing, fine line relief, hidden massages or images, void pantographs, guilloche patterns, custom geometric patterns, point shaker. Operating protocols and de facto industry standards. Risk shared by the security supplier and security printer, originator/custom related risks, information risks, security material risks, supply chain risks, physical intrusion risks, personnel risk, failure risk. General guideline for security printers and supplier.
