UNIT I: Basic Principles of Multi-colour Printing 07Hrs

Multi Colour Printing Make ready procedures, extra precautions required for colour printing, wet-on-wet printing, colour sequence for three and four-colour work, faults and remedies in colour printing, ink mixing, colour matching. Wet-on-wet trapping ink, tack value. Types of drying mechanisms in Multi colour Sheet fed presses. Inline coating, IR dryer, UV dryer for high speed multi-colour printing, Characteristics of registration, registration mechanism, seasoning and conditioning of paper to get perfect registration.

UNIT II: Quality control devices and Colour Measurement for multi-colour printing 07 Hrs

Star target device, colour bars, Solid patches, Trapping patches, Percentage tints, Grey balance patches. Principles and techniques of offset colour proofing, Densitometer, Calorimeter, Spectrophotometer, Spectral colour measurement, offline and on-line colour measurement systems. Computer Control Systems on sheet fed offset presses for controlling ink feed, plate image reader, densitometry quality control, automatic register control.

UNIT IV : Computer to Print Control (CPC 08 Hrs

Consoles of Different types CPC machines, CD inputs from image centre or CTP, adjustment of registration and inking units, Re-rendered jobs, ink feed preset systems. Automation in Multi colour presses – Auto plate fixing, Auto Blanket and Impression Cylinder wash, Auto Ink Presetting, Reducing time of Make ready.

UNIT V : Power transmission, Electrical controls and pumps maintenance

Types of Power transmission, belt drive, rope drive, chain drive, gear drives, types of springs, purpose of springs, bearing, shafts, cams and cam followers, pneumatic controls and maintenance.
