Course Objectives:

The subject is pre-requisite for principles of underground mining and to know the importance of mining, and to deal with shaft sinking, developing an underground deposit and its supporting.

I. UNDERSTAND DIFFERENT MINE OPENING;

  1. Sketching of different mine openings and naming it, such as Adits, tunnels, shafts, levels, reef/ore body/reserves, cross out, out crop, stope, and open cast workings. 6 Hours
    1. Identify and study the different shapes of shafts by using mine models of Circular, rectangular, square and elliptical shafts.
    2. Identify and study the various types of shafts by using designs of vertical shaft, Inclined and compound shaft. 6 Hours

II. UNDERSTAND DRIVE AND ORE BINS.

    1. Study of different mine developmental openings like shaft, shaftstation, cross cut, Footwall crosscut.
    2. Sketching of different drives like Reef drive and Foot wall drive.
    3. Drilling Patterns used in Driving Operations.
    4. Demonstration of working and uses of Ore bin, Brow bin,Orepass. 6 Hours

III. KNOW THE DIFFERENT SUPPOTRS IN MINING.

IV. KNOW THE DIFFERENT SHAFT SINKING EQUIPMENTS.

    1. Distinguish the surface plants and equipments used while sinking a shaft, such as Head gear, winding room, lamp room, first aid room, bath room.
    2. Distinguish the drilling patterns for Shaft sinking
    3. Study of removal of debris, Ventilation and Lighting facilities and dealing with water during Sinking 3Hours
    1. Sketch and study of working of sinking platform by using the models. 6 Hours
    2. Sketch and studythe working of Rider by using models. 3Hours
    3. Sketching of brick and concrete lining in shaft sinking. 3Hours

  6. Models of shaft sinking equipments – derrick, sinking kibble, rider, walling scaffold, brick and concrete lining in shaft sinking.
