UNIT-1: KNOW THE INITIAL DEVELOPMENTS OF MINING

1. Classify mining methods- surface and underground mining.
2. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of open cast and underground mines.
3. Explain different mining terms used in underground mines.
4. Explain different shapes of shafts – Rectangular, square, circular, Elliptical and their relative advantages and disadvantages.
5. Explain different types of shafts
6. Define vertical shaft, Inclined shaft, compound shaft, multistage Winding and their relative merits and de-merits.

UNIT-II: UNDERSTAND THE ORDINARY METHODS OF SHAFT SINKING

1. Illustrate the procedure for the selection of site for shaft and number of shafts.
2. Explain surface plants and equipment required for sinking.
3. State the ordinary method of shaft sinking in normal ground.
4. Explain Temporary Lining.
5. Explain the sinking equipments-walling scaffold, Riders, sinking bucket.
