UNIT I: POWER DEVICES & APPLICATIONS 12 Hrs

Principle – working – characteristics & specifications – Power Diodes, Power Transistor, SCR, Triac, Diac, GTO – Two Transistor Analogy- Operation of SCR – TURN ON methods of SCR,- TURN OFF methods of SCR – Light Dimmer circuit using DIAC & TRIAC – Burglar Alarm circuit – Emergency Lamp circuit. Single Phase half wave controlled rectifier – Full wave midpoint – Full bridge – Half bridge controlled rectifier.

UNIT II: POWER ELECTRONICS CIRCUITS 12 Hrs

CHOPPER : Principle – Control Scheme, Step-up and Step down choppers, Chopper – circuit classifications, Applications of Chopper, INVERTER :Definitions, Principles of working of basic Inverter circuit – classifications, Applications of Inverter, CYCLOCONVERTERS: Basic Principle of Operation – single phase to single phase Cyclo converters, Applications.
