UNIT I: INTRODUCTION TO REFRIGERATION

Definition of refrigeration, laws of refrigeration, methods of refrigeration, refrigeration effects, COP, TON of refrigeration, difference b/w refrigeration & heat pump. VCR system, VCR cycle, principle parts of single VCR system, Representation of the vapour compression cycle on P-H, T-S & P-V Diagram, factors affecting the performance of a VCR system, house hold refrigerator working on VCR cycle. Refrigerants, essential properties of refrigerants, selection of refrigerants, simple vapour absorption refrigeration system, difference of an absorption system over vapour compression system.
