Pre-requisites:

Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics and Process Instrumentation Course objectives:

  1. To impart hands on training in programming the PLC on a PC
  2. To write programs using Ladder diagrams
  3. To understand how to Interface industrial processes using PLC

Course Outcomes:

  1. CO1 Test the working of Basic gates, Universal gates, Adders and Subtractors
  2. CO2 Test the working of Timers and Counters
  3. CO3 Write and test the ladder program for process fan, flashing light, Level control and alarm system
  4. CO4 Demonstrate interfacing PLC with water level controller / Traffic light controller / Conveyor controller /Lift controller ( Any two)

  2. Traffic light controller. 06
  3. Conveyor controller. 06
  4. Lift controller. 06

Few Suggested Student activities-

Example 1

  1. Take Quiz tests / assignments in PLC based experiments. Documents have to be maintained as a record.
  2. Do a power point presentation on current topics in PLC based . Documents have to be maintained as a record.
  3. Visit YouTube or any other sites on current topics in PLC based experiments. Listen to the lectures and submit a handwritten report and a soft copy (CD / DVD)
  4. Compare PLCs of different manufacturers and prepare a report

Example 2

  1. Test the working of counters and timers for different delays
  2. Write Ladder diagram for two level temperature control
  3. Write the Ladder diagram for Two-way staircase light control
  4. Collect information on a PLC based real time application and present a report
  5. Build a small application using PLC in process instrumentation field (Mini Project)

Note:-The student shall do any one topic in Example-1 and any one topic in Example-2 for the purpose of assessment. The questions set for assessment should be out come based keeping in mind the analytical and creative skills
