UNIT I Fundamentals of Analytical Instruments 05 Hours

Introduction, Elements of an Analytical Instruments, Applications of chemical composition measurement in industries, classification of analytical instruments based on properties

UNIT II Analysis using Mechanical and Thermal properties 10 Hours

Viscosity measurement techniques:- terminologies, Saybolt viscometer, Density and specific gravity measurement techniques:- pressure head type, densitometer, Displacer type densitometer, Float type densitometer, Buoyancy effect type densitometer, Thermal conductivity analysis:- Principle, Dual hot wire thermal conductivity cell.

UNIT III Analysis using Electrical properties 07 Hours

UNIT IV Oxygen Analysers 08 Hours

Oxygen analyser: – Paramagnetic oxygen analyser:- dumb bell type, wind type, Heat of reaction analyser, Dissolved oxygen analyser, Polarography:- Electrodes Dropping mercury electrode, Saturated calomel electrode

UNIT V Analysis using radiation properties 12 Hours

Electromagnetic radiation:- electromagnetic spectrum, Interaction of radiation with matter, Laws relating to absorption of radiation:- Lamberts law, Beers law, Beer-Lamberts law,
Absorption instruments:- colorimeter (photometer), spectrophotometer, X-ray technique of analysis by diffraction, Nuclear Magnetic resonance:- Principle, block diagram
