Unit 1

Transformer
Construction, principle of operation properties of ideal transformer, equivalent circuit and phasor diagram of practical transformer, different losses efficiency and regulation, O.C and S.C test and its calculation. Distribution and power Transformer, current and potential transformer.

Unit 2

Three phase induction motor
Construction, principle operation, equivalent circuit, torque equation, torque-slip characteristics, different losses and calculation of efficiency. No load test and blocked rotor test. Load test on 3 phase I. M.

Unit 4

Single Phase I. M.
Double field revolving theory, analysis of motor equivalent circuit, split phase, capacitor start and capacitor start run I. M, testing of single phase I. M. Applications of different single phase I.M.

Unit 5

Alternators
Alternator: Construction, emf equation, winding factor, armature reaction, synchronous impedance, load characteristics voltage regulation, use of alternators in power plants.
