Mathematical models of chemical engineering systems: Introduction; Use of mathematical models; Scope of coverage; Principles of formulation; Fundamental laws; Contimuity equation; Energy equation; Equations of motion; Transport equations; Equations of state; Equilibrium; Chemical kinetics.

Unit II

Examples of Mathematical Models of Chemical Engineering Systems: Introduction; Series of isothermal, constant holdup CSTRs; CSTRs with variable hold-ups; Two heated tanks; Gas phase pressurized CSTR; Non-isothermal CSTR; Single component vaporizer; Multicomponent flash drum; Batch reactor; Reactor with mass transfer; Ideal binary distillation column; Batch distillation with holdup; pH systems.
