Unit I

Role Of Downstream Processing In Biotechnology, Role and importance of downstream processing in biotechnological processes. Problems and requirements of bioproduct purification. Economics of downstream processing in Biotechnology, cost-cutting strategies, characteristics of biological mixtures, process design criteria for various classes of bioproducts (high volume, low value products and low volume, high Value products)

Unit II

Physico-chemical basis of bio-separation processes. Recent development in product isolation (for ex. one step purification, reverse Micro cellular extraction on line membrane separation) Primary Separation And Recover Process, Cell disruption methods for intracellular products, removal of insoluble, biomass (and particulate debris) separation techniques, flocculation and sedimentation, centrifugation and filtration methods.
