Module2: Meteorology and Air pollution (6)

Solar radiation, wind circulation, factors affecting dispersion of pollutants, Lapse rate, stabilityconditions, wind velocity profile, Maximum mixing depth (MMD), visibility, Wind rosediagram,General characteristics of stack plume (Plume behaviour). Gaussion diffusion modelfor finding groundlevel concentration. Plume rise. Formulae for stack height and determinationof minimum stack height.

Module3: Air Sampling and Analysis (6)

Air pollution survey, basis and statistical considerations of sampling sites. Devices andmethods used for sampling gases and particulates. Stack emission monitoring, isokineticsampling. Analysis of air samples chemical and instrumental methods. Ambient air qualitymonitoring.

Module4: Photochemical Smog, OdourPollution and Indoor Pollution (6)

Module5: Control of Air Pollution(6)

By process modification, change of raw materials, fuels, process equipment and processoperation by use of air pollution control equipment for particulate and gaseous pollutants.Design of control equipment as Settling chamber, cyclone, fabric filter, Electro staticprecipitator and Wet scrubber.

Module 6: Control of Gaseous Pollutants and Legislation(6)

Principles of removal of gaseous pollutants, design of incineration, absorption adsorptionsystems. Control of air pollution from automobiles. Vehicular pollution, composition, quantityand control.Air (Prevention and Control) Pollution Act, 1981.Emission standards for stationary and mobilesources. National Ambient air quality standards, 2009 (NAAQS).
