- Study of metallurgical microscope
- Metallographic sample preparation and etching
- Microstructures of plain carbon steels
- Microstructures of cast irons
- Annealing, Normalizing and Hardening of medium carbon steel and observation of microstructures
- Study of tempering characteristics of hardened steel
- Determination of hardenability of steel using Jominy end Quench Test
- Fatigue test – to determine number of cycles to failure of a given material at a given stress
