Course Outcomes:

Students will be able to achieve & demonstrate the following COs on completion of course based learning

  1. Develop upper body garments using principles and techniques of pattern making and garment construction.
  2. Develop lower body garments using principles and techniques of pattern making and garment construction.
  3. Implement the pattern grading system for garment construction.
  4. Provide solutions for fit problems in garments.
  5. Estimate the cost of the constructed garment based on lay marking, material and trimmings used.

Unit I

Women’s Bodice Blocks (IKS 2 HOURS) 1.1 The importance and evolution of women’s garment from past to present. 1.2 Principles of Pattern Making . 1.3 Types of Paper Patterns (list). Basic pattern, Fashion pattern, Working Pattern, Master Pattern. 1.4 Bodice paper patterns with the following principles: Style Lines (Armhole, Princess Line and Empire Line), Principle of Added Fullness (Equal, Unequal and Onesided fullness), Principle of Contouring (Corset, Katori blouse). 1.5 Paper pattern library with Neckline variations: (Off shoulder dress, Boat neck, Cowl and Halter), Sleeve variation (Kimono, Raglan), Collar variation (Flat, Standing and Rolled).
