Course Outcomes:

Students will be able to achieve & demonstrate the following COs on completion of course based learning

  1. Select various woven fabrics as per the client needs.
  2. Select the basic weaves of woven fabrics according to various end-use.
  3. Interpret Knit & Knitted fabric for comfort and versatility & their performance.
  4. Select the nonwoven fabrics on the basis of performance and end-use.
  5. Use of textile pretreatment processes sustainably for grey fabric.
  6. Apply the finishes as per client requirements.

Unit I

Weaving and Woven fabrics 1.1 Introduction to weaving and woven fabrics . 1.2 Basic Motions of the Loom: Shedding, Picking & Beat up. 1.3 Types of Looms with shedding mechanism :Hand looms, Dobby loom , Jacquard looms,Shuttle loom, Projectile loom, Rapier loom, Air-jet loom, Water-jet loom, Single shed loom ,Multiple shed loom.–IKS. 1.4 Preparatory processes for weaving: Warping, Sizing, Weaver’s beam, Drawing, Denting. 1.5 Categories of woven fabrics :Fabrics with plain weave , Fabrics with twill weave , Fabrics with satin weave. 1.6 Technical specifications of woven fabrics : fabric width, ends/inch or cm, picks per inch or cm, nature of weave, warp and weft fiber content, warp count ,weft count, GSM and type of finishes applied.

  • Collect different types of value added fabrics for relevant end use.

Assignment

  • Prepare a PPT on various pretreatments of gray fabrics for end uses.
  • Prepare a report on 3R useful for sustainability of textile materials in the Garment and Textile industry.
  • Skill Development

  • Collect the sample of finished fabrics from the market, and describe the type of finishes it may have and understand the end uses of the given fabric. (Students have to collect at least 10 samples of the different swatches and mount it in the sample sheet.)
