Course Outcomes:

Students will be able to achieve & demonstrate the following COs on completion of course based learning

  2. Choose the appropriate type of blow moulding for a given application.
  3. Operate Calendaring machine for manufacturing of PVC sheet / film.

Unit I

Extrusion Process 1.1 Extrusion: Principle, definition, materials, and applications. 1.2 Single screw extruder: constructional features and functions of different parts such as hopper, barrel, screw, drive system, heating and cooling systems, zones of extruder, thrust bearing, breaker plate and screen pack. 1.3 Twin screw extruder: types- co-rotating, counterrotating, its comparison, advantages over single screw, intermeshing and non-intermeshing. 1.4 Pipe extrusion: Process plant extrusion layout and auxiliary equipments such as sizing device, cooling trough, take-off unit, cutter and coiler 1.5 Blown film extrusion: process plant layout and auxiliary equipment’s such as venture ring support, bubble blowing unit, cooling unit, bubble collapsing plates, winder unit , co extrusion – 2and3 layer 1.6 Sheet extrusion: process layout and auxiliary equipments such as cooling unit, stripping roll-unit, gauging heads, cut-out unit, sheet stacker and coiler. 1.7 Wire and cable Coating: Materials, process. 1.8 Extruder pelletizer: Equipment, process 1.9 Trouble shooting in extrusion i.e. defects, causes and remedies.
