The detailed syllabus of power systems lab is as follows. <\/p>\n<p><h4>Course Objectives:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To familiarize with various switch gears in power systems<\/li>\n<li>To apply the basic principles for operation of protective relays<\/li>\n<li>To impart the basic knowledge of measurement of earth resistance and soil resistivity<\/li>\n<li>To demonstrate the Insulation testing of LT and HT Cable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><h4>Course Outcomes:<\/h4>\n<p>On completion of the course student will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select suitable switchgears for different applications.<\/li>\n<li>Identify various protective relays and their characteristics<\/li>\n<li>Apply suitable tests to measure the resistance of earth and soil resistivity.<\/li>\n<li>Identify various equipments in a substation Generating Station<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 1:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Identify various switchgears in the laboratory and write their specifications<\/li>\n<li>Dismantle MCCB\/ELCB and identify various parts<\/li>\n<li>Test HRC fuse by performing the load test.<\/li>\n<li>Test MCB by performing the load test<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 2:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Study different protective relays used in power system and prepare their specifications<\/li>\n<li>Determine the characteristic , pick up time etc. of different types of electromagnetic relays(Eg:-Over Current and Under Voltage relays)<\/li>\n<li>Determine the characteristic , pick up time etc. of different types of Static\/Microprocessor based relays<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 3:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Demonstrate the working of a Earth Megger<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate the measurement of earth resistance and soil resistivity.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate the measurement of insulation resistance of a given LT\/HT cable.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 4:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Conduct a Visit to a near by substation \/ Generating station and write a report<\/li>\n<li>Draw a layout diagram of 11KV\/400 V substation in your campus\/ adjacent substation in a drawing sheet and prepare a report<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Text Books:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>C.L Wadhwa &#8216;Electrical Power Systems&#8217;,New Age International publishers<\/li>\n<li>M. There is no duplication in experiments in between groups. This is mainly for the purpose of continuous internal evaluation.
