The detailed syllabus of server administration lab is as follows. <\/p>\n<p><h4>Course Objectives:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To apply the principles, practices and goals of server administration.<\/li>\n<li>To provide practical experience on administrating networking, FTP and print servers<\/li>\n<li>To configure samba and NFS file servers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><h4>Course Outcomes:<\/h4>\n<p>On completion of the course, students will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Develop basic concept of server administration and SSH software packages<\/li>\n<li>Make use of the basic concept in administrating networking, IP addressing and network interfaces<\/li>\n<li>Apply basic concepts of print server, web server and FTP server<\/li>\n<li>Apply basic concepts of samba and NFS file server<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 1:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Make use ofSSH command, log into another computer<\/li>\n<li>Identify remote execution with SSH command<\/li>\n<li>Make use of SSH tools in client server software packages<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with Configuring SSH<\/li>\n<li>Apply SSH for remote login and remote execution<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 2:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Experiment with Configuring Linux as a DHCP server, DNS, Router<\/li>\n<li>Build network proxy connection.<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with Configuring network interfaces<\/li>\n<li>Make use of command to check the routes in local network<\/li>\n<li>Identify the network manager to turn off and disable network.<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with Configuring IP address on switch<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 3:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Utilize basic command in print server, web server and FTP server<\/li>\n<li>Identify remote administration of system<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with Configuring Apache web server to use key.<\/li>\n<li>Build HTTPS connection to web server<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with Configuring FTP daemon package<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 4:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Experiment with Configuring samba and sambaclient packages<\/li>\n<li>Apply Start and enable the smb and nmb services<\/li>\n<li>Develop the samba server workgroup<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with the installation of packages needed to configure an NFS service.<\/li>\n<li>Make use of the package that provides the NFS server software<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Suggested Open-Ended Experiments:<\/h4>\n<p>(Not for End Semester Examination but compulsory to be included in Continuous Internal<br \/>\nEvaluation. Students can do open-ended experiments as a group of 2-3. There is no duplication in experiments between groups. Open ended experiments should include the SSH software packages, administrating networking, IP addressing)\n<\/p>\n<p><h4>Example<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Configure your apache web server to use key and self-signed certificate to serve secure (HTTPS) content.<\/li>\n<li>Use the desktop to check that Network Manager has successfully started your network interface to the network.
