The detailed syllabus of diesel engine service lab is as follows. <\/p>\n<p><h4>Course Objectives:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To train students to get an in-depth knowledge about diesel engine systems and components.<\/li>\n<li>To acquire skills regarding identification, dismantling, servicing and assembling of diesel engines and its components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><h4>Course Outcomes:<\/h4>\n<p>On completion of the course, the student will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Apply the procedure of dismantling on diesel engines.<\/li>\n<li>Make use of overhauling and servicing procedure on diesel engine components.<\/li>\n<li>Utilize the servicing procedure on diesel engine fuel system components.<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with diesel engine intake and exhaust systems.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 1:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Make use of diesel engine components<\/li>\n<li>Identify various diesel engine components and methods of reconditioning.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 2:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Apply the procedure of dismantling, inspection and assembling of diesel engine<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with (Removal, inspection and refitting) cylinder head.<\/li>\n<li>Utilize the inspection procedure on cylinder bore. (Ovality and taperness)<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with (dismantling, inspecting and assembling) valve assembly.<\/li>\n<li>Apply removal inspection and refitting procedure on piston, connecting rod, camshaft and crankshaft.<\/li>\n<li>Make use of valve tappet clearance adjustment procedure.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 3:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Organize the procedure of dismantling and assembling of fuel feed pump and filter.<\/li>\n<li>Plan the procedure of dismantling and assembling of Fuel Injection pump and set FI pump timing.<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with (Dismantling and assembling) fuel injector<\/li>\n<li>Choose various tests using Fuel injector tester.<\/li>\n<li>Organize bleeding of diesel fuel system.<\/li>\n<li>Identify the working of various components in electronic diesel fuel control system and its testing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 4:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Make use of overhauling procedure on diesel air intake system and disassembly of EGR valve.<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with turbochargers and superchargers.<\/li>\n<li>Make use removal and inspection procedure on exhaust components like tail pipe, catalytic converter and muffler.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Suggested Open Ended Projects<\/h4>\n<p>(Not for End Semester Examination but compulsory to be included in Continuous Internal Evaluation. Students can do open ended experiments as a group of 2-3.
