The detailed syllabus of fundamentals of fluid mechanics lab is as follows. <\/p>\n<p><h4>Course Objectives:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To measure discharge of fluid through pipes, orifices and notches.<\/li>\n<li>To get familiar with various applications of fluid mechanics and achieve the proficiency to test the performance of pumps.<\/li>\n<li>To apply their knowledge in fluid systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><h4>Course Outcomes:<\/h4>\n<p>On completion of the course, the student will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Make use of Bernoulli&#8217;s theorem apparatus, orifices and notches.<\/li>\n<li>Organize experiments on Venturi meter and pipe friction apparatus.<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with centrifugal pump and reciprocating pump.<\/li>\n<li>Experiment with hydraulic circuits and pneumatic circuits.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 1:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Recall the Bernoulli&#8217;s theorem<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate the use of Bernoulli&#8217;s theorem apparatus<\/li>\n<li>Verify Bernoulli&#8217;s theorem using the apparatus<\/li>\n<li>Construct the graph, total energy Vs Length of pipe<\/li>\n<li>Interpret the curve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate the Orifice apparatus.<\/li>\n<li>Find the coefficient of discharge of orifice.<\/li>\n<li>Construct and interpret the graphcoefficient of discharge Vs discharge.<\/li>\n<li>Calibration of the orifice.<\/li>\n<li>Comments on graph<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate various notch apparatus-Rectangular and Triangular notch.<\/li>\n<li>Find the coefficient of discharge of Notch.<\/li>\n<li>Construct and interpret the graphcoefficient of discharge Vs discharge.<\/li>\n<li>Calibration of the Notches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 2:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate the Venturi meter.<\/li>\n<li>Develop coefficient of discharge of venturi meter.<\/li>\n<li>Construct and interpret the graphcoefficient of discharge Vs discharge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Explain the various types of pipe fittings, joints and valves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Recall the term coefficient of friction in pipes.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate the pipe friction apparatus.<\/li>\n<li>Find the coefficient of friction of pipes of different diameters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 3:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Illustrate the working centrifugal and reciprocating pumps<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Make use of performance test procedure on centrifugal pump<\/li>\n<li>Find various efficiencies of centrifugal pump.<\/li>\n<li>Construct various characteristics curves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Utilize performance test on reciprocating pump<\/li>\n<li>Solve various efficiencies of reciprocating pumps<\/li>\n<li>Construct various characteristics curves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 4:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Recall the symbols used in Fluid systems<\/li>\n<li>Illustrate the hydraulic circuit<\/li>\n<li>Illustrate the pneumatic circuit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify the controlling method of a single acting cylinder of hydraulic system<\/li>\n<li>Identify the controlling method of double acting cylinder of hydraulic system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify the controlling method of single acting cylinder of pneumatic system<\/li>\n<li>Identify the controlling method of a double acting cylinder of pneumatic system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Suggested Open Ended Projects<\/h4>\n<p>(Not for End Semester Examination but compulsory to be included in Continuous Internal Evaluation. Students can do open ended experiments as a group of 2-3.
