The detailed syllabus of mechanics of materials lab is as follows. <\/p>\n<p><h4>Course Objectives:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To understand mechanical behavior of various engineering materials by conducting standard tests.<\/li>\n<li>To understand the procedure of doing different tests like tension, compression, hardness, torsion and impact in various materials<\/li>\n<li>To impart knowledge about the testing of springs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><h4>Course Outcomes:<\/h4>\n<p>On completion of the course, the student will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The study the behavior of engineering materials under different loading conditions<\/li>\n<li>Estimation of Hardness, Impact and toughness properties of engineering materials<\/li>\n<li>Conduct torsion test on materials<\/li>\n<li>Conduct spring test on materials<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 1:<\/h4>\n<p>Experiments <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Tension test on mild steel &#8211; To study the behavior of mild steel under tension and to find out the young&#8217;s modulus, ultimate strength, yield strength, percentage elongation.<\/li>\n<li>Double shear test on mild steel &#8211; To find out the maximum shear stress in the mild steel specimen using double shear method.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 2:<\/h4>\n<p>Experiments <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Brinell hardness Test- Study on estimation of Hardness properties of engineering materials by performing Brinell hardness test.<\/li>\n<li>Rockwell hardness Test &#8211; Study on estimation of Hardness properties of engineering materials by performing Rockwell hardness test.<\/li>\n<li>Vieker&#8217;s Hardness Test -Study on estimation of Hardness properties of engineering materialsby performing Vicker&#8217;shardness test.<\/li>\n<li>Charpy test &#8211; Study on estimation of impact property of the engineering materials by performing Charpy test.<\/li>\n<li>Izod test &#8211; Study on estimation of impact property of the engineering materials by performing Izod test.<\/li>\n<li>Toughness test &#8211; To study the toughness property of materials.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 3:<\/h4>\n<p>Experiments<br \/>\nTorsion test &#8211; To determine the modulus of rigidity of the material of the given body\n<\/p>\n<p><h4>Module 4:<\/h4>\n<p>Experiments <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Compression test on spring &#8211; To find the modulus of rigidity of the spring using compression test<\/li>\n<li>Tension test on spring &#8211; To find the modulus of rigidity of the spring using tension test<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Text Books:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>G E Dieter.
