The detailed syllabus of masonry and service lab is as follows. <\/p>\n<p><h4>Course Objectives:<\/h4>\n<p>This course is designed to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify the quality of construction materials, and understand their relevant characteristics<\/li>\n<li>Identify the suitability of various materials for different construction process.<\/li>\n<li>Set out a building at field from building plan<\/li>\n<li>Supervise construction of brick wall, electrical and plumbing works in buildings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><h4>Course Outcomes:<\/h4>\n<p>On completion of the course, the student will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Conduct tests to find out the strength of different building materials related to construction activities and identify the design mix of concrete.<\/li>\n<li>Set out the building at site from given building plan<\/li>\n<li>Supervise construction of brick wall.<\/li>\n<li>Supervise electrical and plumbing works in a building.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 1:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Determine the fineness of cement<\/li>\n<li>Determine the standard consistency<\/li>\n<li>Determine the initial and final setting time of cement<\/li>\n<li>Determine the workability of concrete (slump test and compaction factor test)<\/li>\n<li>Conduct the compression test on brick and find the stress at first crack and ultimate stress<\/li>\n<li>Conduct tension test on mild steel rod and find yield point stress, breaking stress, ultimate stress, percentage of elongation and percentage of reduction in constructional area of MS bar<\/li>\n<li>Determine fineness modulus on fine and coarse aggregate\t1\tApplying<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 2:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Conduct setting out of a building on site<\/li>\n<li>Identify various layers and types of soil in foundation pit by visiting at least 3 construction sites in different locations of city and prepare report consisting photographs and samples.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 3:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Construct one brick thick wall in English bond<\/li>\n<li>Construct one and half brick thick wall in English bond<\/li>\n<li>Construct one brick thick wall in Flemish bond<\/li>\n<li>Construct one and half brick thick wall in Flemish bond<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Module 4:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Do electrical wiring connections to lamps in series and parallel circuits and connect a two-way switch in a circuit to operate lamp.<\/li>\n<li>Install plumbing work for single tap and bath room shower<\/li>\n<li>Install plumbing work for water closet<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><h4>Text Books:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Gambhir, M.L., Concrete Technology, Tata McGraw Hill Publishing Co.
