Course Objectives:

  • To make students aware of the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication in business.
  • To help students in writing effective mails and other business documents for better readability and ensuring that messages are communicated as it should be.

Course Outcomes:

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Understand various types of communication and develop modern types of messages for commercial correspondence
  2. Build various types of business letters
  3. Develop collection letters
  4. Develop bank correspondence letters

Module 1:

  1. Understand communication and the eight phases of communication process
  2. Demonstrate business communication by electronic media
  3. Demonstrate business communication by visual media
  4. Create a memorandum to be used by an organisation
  5. Create a business communication blog

Module 2:

  1. Analyze the essentials of an effective business letter
  2. Demonstrate the parts of a business letter and the different format of business letter
  3. Prepare letters of trade reference and their reply
  4. Prepare letters of status enquiry and reply
  5. Construct letters of offers and quotations.
  6. Construct a letter for placing an order
  7. Construct letters of execution of order and delay in execution.
  8. Construct an order cancellation letter
  9. Construct letters of complaints and adjustments

Module 3:

  1. Construct a collection letter
  2. Draft a letter between agent and principal
  3. Draft letters requesting an agency, appointing an agent and cancelling agency
  4. Construct circular letters relating to establishment of business, introduction of new product, and change in the price of the product.

Module 4:

  1. Draft a letter to a bank for opening current account.
  2. Draft a letter to bank for asking overdraft.
  3. Draft a letter to bank for cash credit facility.
  4. Draft a letter to bank for loan facility to construct house, purchase vehicles
  5. Draft a letter of credit.
  6. Draft a letter for closing an account.
  7. Draft letters seeking insurance policies and surrendering the policy
  8. Demonstrate the difference between official correspondence and business correspondence
  9. Open Ended Experiments
