Course Objectives:

  • To understand microcontroller and its programming methods.
  • To summarize the interfacing of peripherals with microcontroller.
  • To summarize the applications of PLC modules in electrical engineering.

Course Outcomes:

On completion of the course, the students will be able to:

  1. Develop simple assembly language programs for 8051 microcontroller
  2. Develop assembly language programs to interface the microcontroller with the peripherals.
  3. Develop simple ladder programs for a standard PLC
  4. Develop ladder programs for various applications and interface I/O devices with the PLC modules.

Module 1:

  1. Identify the Pin details of 8051 microcontroller
  2. Familiarize with Instruction set of 8051
  3. Summarize different menus available in simulator IDE software and practice their use.
  4. Develop simple assembly language programs execute and verify the result for the following; 1. Various arithmetic operations. 2. Various data transfer operations. 3. Finding the largest value 4. BCD to Hex conversion

Module 2:

  1. Develop an assembly language programme to interface LEDs through port 1 including time delay. (i) LED (ii) Switch
  2. Develop an assembly language programme to control (a) Relay (b) Buzzer
  3. Develop an assembly language programme to control (a) Stepper Motor (b) DC Motor

Module 3:

  1. Explain the block diagram of a PLC based system and distinguish its major components and functions.
  2. Familiarize ladder programming and instruction set of a standard PLC
  3. Familiarize a standard PLC kit and software
  4. Develop simple ladder programs and verify the result 1. Various ON/OFF control with and without delay 2. Various logic gates

Module 4:

  1. Develop a ladder program and verify the result of (a) stair case light control (b) godown light control
  2. Develop a ladder program and verify the result of a godown light control
  3. Develop a ladder program and verify the result of a direct on Line (DOL) starter
  4. Develop a ladder program and verify the result of a Star-delta starter.
