Course Objectives:
- To give hands on training on the basic concepts and applications of power electronic devices such as power diodes, SCRs etc.
- To provide experience on building different triggering circuits of SCR and TRIAC
- To experiment with power electronic devices to solve different real life problems.
Course Outcomes:
On completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Plot VI characteristics of power electronic devices
- Setup different gate triggering circuits of SCR and firing circuits for TRIAC.
- Apply power electronic devices to solve different real life problems.
Module 1:
- Plot the VI characteristics of SCR
- Plot the VI characteristics of DIAC
- Plot the VI characteristics of TRIAC
- Plot the VI characteristics of UJT
- Plot the VI characteristics of Power diode
Module 2:
- Setup R-triggering circuit for SCR.
- Setup RC-triggering circuit for SCR.
- Setup UJT-triggering circuit for SCR.
- Setup TRIAC firing circuit using DIAC.
Module 3:
- To control the speed of DC motor using SCR
- To Design and construct an automatic street lamp using optocoupler and LDR.
- To Set up an emergency lamp circuit using SCR
- To construct a light dimmer circuit using TRIAC
- To construct an inverter circuit using SCR
