Course Objectives:
- To provide hands on experience of the measurement techniques of various physical parameters.
- To equip to calibrate various instruments.
Course Outcomes:
On completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Plot the characteristics of temperature transducers
- Calibrate thermometers and Bourdon tubes
- Measure flow using orifice meter, venturi meter and Rotameter
- Measure different physical parameters using various transducers
Module 1:
- Plot the response curve of thermocouples with and without thermowell
- Plot the response curve of series combination of thermocouple.
- Plot the response curve of parallel combination of Thermocouple
- Plot the characteristics of Pt 100 R.T.D and determine the sensitivity.
- Determine the temperature coefficient of resistance of Pt 100 R.T.D
- Plot the characteristics of Thermistors
Module 2:
- Calibration of Bimetal thermometer
- Calibrate Bourdon tube Pressure gauge using dead weight Tester.
Module 3:
- Measurement of flow by differential pressure method-Orifice meter and Venturimeter.
- Measurement of Flow by variable area flow meter -Rotameter.
- Determine Coefficient of Discharge of Venturimeter
- Determine Coefficient of Discharge of Orifice plate
Module 4:
- Pressure measurement Using Well/ U-tube/ inclined tube manometers
- Pressure measurement Using Bourdon Tubes- C type / Spiral type iii. Capsules Bellows
- Pressure measurement Using Bellows
- Level measurement Using Capacitive transducers
- Level measurement using DP transmitter
- Determine Humidity Using psychrometer
- Determine Humidity Using hygrometer
- Determine Kinematic and Absolute Viscosity using Viscometer.
- Measure angular velocity using Stroboscope.
- Measure angular velocity using Tachometer
- Measure speed using AC and DC tacho generators
- To measure the force and torque using strain gauges.
- Measure Liquid Level Using Sight Glass and Float level sensor.
- Measure Liquid Level Using Conductive probes.
- Measure density using hydrometer.
- Measure the pH value of a solution using pH meter
- Plot the characteristics of acceleration/ vibration measurement
- To perform the operation of smoke/ gas detector
