Course Objectives:

  • To familiarize and experiment with various components of Automotive power train components.
  • To identify and explain the functional requirements, inter relationship of the components involved in the power train control systems.

Course Outcomes:

On completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Experiment with various sensors used in control system
  2. Utilize various actuators used in control system
  3. Make use of various Engine Control systems
  4. Experiment with Automatic Transmission

Module 1:

  1. Experiment with Temperature sensor
  2. Experiment with pressure sensor
  3. Make use of Mass air flow sensor
  4. Experiment with Oxygen sensor
  5. Utilize Position sensor-Position/speed sensor
  6. Experiment with Knock sensor

Module 2:

  1. Make use of Solenoid-switches
  2. Experiment with relays
  3. Experiment with motors

Module 3:

  1. Utilize engine diagnostic machine
  2. Plan testing of engine with analyzer
  3. Experiment with EGR Control
  4. Experiment with Variable valve timing control
  5. Utilize Distributor less Ignition control.

Module 4:

  1. Make use of automatic transmission
  2. Experiment with traction control

Suggested Open Ended Projects

(Not for End Semester Examination but compulsory to be included in Continuous Internal Evaluation. Students can do open ended experiments as a group of 2-3. There is no duplication in experiments between groups. Open ended experiments should include the concepts of arrays, functions and structures)
