Course Objectives:

• To provide hands on experience in analyzing the size reduction and separation of particles.

Course Outcomes:

On completion of the course student will be able to:

1. Illustrate sieve analysis.
2. Illustrate sub sieve analysis.
3. Illustrate sedimentation and filtration.
4. Illustrate size reduction.

Module 1:

1. Estimate the average diameter of solid particles using sieve analysis.
2. Estimate the effectiveness of sieve.
3. Estimate the effectiveness of vibrating screen.
4. Open ended experiments

Module 2:

1. Estimate the particle size distribution of particulate solid using beaker decantation method.
2. Estimate the particle size distribution of particulate solid using pipette analysis.
3. Open ended experiments

Module 3:

1. Estimate the area of continuous thickener by batch sedimentation experiment.
2. Estimate the specific cake resistance of given slurry using leaf filter.
3. Estimate the specific cake resistance of given slurry using filter press.
4. Estimate the separation efficiency of a given cone classifier.
5. Open ended experiments

Module 4:

1. Verify the law of crushing using ball mill
