Course Outcomes:

On completion of the course, the students will be able to:-

  1. Identify the operation of different electrical measuring instruments.
  2. Summarize the measuring methods of various circuit parameters and physical quantities.
  3. Identify the measuring methods of electrical power and energy.
  4. Summarize the principle of different solar and wind energy measuring instruments.

Module 1:

Basics of measurement- Definition- standards- errors- need for calibration. Classification of instruments- Absolute & secondary- Indicating, Recording & Integrating- Analog & digital- Null & deflection type.
Production of torque- deflection, damping & controlling torque (definition and methods of production only) – pointers- scales- supporting systems. Construction and working- PMMC & MI instruments- errors- comparison. Range extension of meters- shunts & multipliers- simple problems.
