Wood Chemistry Lab

Course Outcomes:

Student will be able to:

  1. Apply Analysis of salt
  2. Apply With Identification of wood
  3. Analyse Constituents in wood
  4. Analyse Wood Preservatives

MODULE-I

Test for radicals Simple salts-carbonates,sulphate,sulphides,halides,nitrate,copper,pottasium,ammonium,aluminium,chromic,zinc manganese, calciumand magnesium

MODULE-II

Identification of wood Teak rose wood, acasia, jack wood, rubber wood, vankana, mango, aini and irul

MODULE-III

Wood Analysis

  1. To determine moisture content of wood by oven dry method
  2. To determine lignin content in wood
  3. To determine ash content in wood
  4. To determine humidity and temperature measured by hygrometer
  5. Demonstrate the determination of cellulose, hemicellulose,alpha cellulose& pentose in wood

MODULE-IV

Preservative retention

  1. To determine the concentration of a preservative solution check by using hydrometer
  2. To determine the qualitative analysis for the depth of penetration of boron treated wood
  3. Conduct the dry salt retention (DSR) on a preservative treated specimen
