Course Objectives:
- To enable the students to get practical experience in sewing machine
Course Outcomes:
On completion of the course, the students will be able to:
- Identify the sewing machine components and understand their functions
- Practice the basics of sewing machine settings
- Stitching practice on fabric
- Sewing practice and seam types
Module 1:
- Identification of Manual Sewing machine Components and understand their functions.
- Identification of semi- automatic Sewing machine Components and understand their functions.
Module 2:
- Needle fixing and threading in Single needle, double needle, over-lock, flat lock and feed-of the-arm machine
- Pedal and knee lifter operations practice -Winding the bobbin thread – adjusting the bobbin thread tension.
- Adjusting the stitch length, needle thread tension nut, pressure of presser foot, feed-dog, thread take-up spring and needle thread takeup lever
Module 3:
- Sewing exercise on paper -Exercise 1 – Parallel line, zig zag Exercise 2 – Corners – Exercise 3 – Concentric squares – Exercise 4 – Curves – Exercise 5 – Concentric curves
- Sewing exercise on fabric- Parallel line – zig zag- Corners – Concentric squares – Curves -Concentric curves
- Stitch classification and stitch properties.
Module 4:
- To Construct seams- superimposed seam, lapped seam, French, flat seam etc.,
- To Construct seam finishes- Piped, crossed, Bound, Pinked
- To Construct Hems- Slip, Catch stitch, Invisible, Herring bone.
