Course Objectives:

This is an English language development course which aims at developing the language skills needed for the learners both at the workplace and in daily life. The course has a wide range of learning material to familiarize with, internalize and use at the workplace. The objectives of the course are:

1. To apply the elements of grammar and vocabulary to use English with ease in both formal and informal situations.
2. To listen, identify and comprehend the main idea and supporting details of a conversation
3. To use language functions needed for technical and casual discourses.
4. To develop fluent and accurate oral communication with correct pronunciation needed for a diploma engineer at the workplace with the help of multimedia tools.

Course Outcomes:

At the end of the course the learner will be able to:

1. Use words, phrases and sentences accurately and with correct pronunciation in real life situations
2. Listens to and comprehends the substance and central idea of simple narratives and descriptions.
3. Use apt language functions while making statements, asking questions, giving instructions, and reporting events.
4. Narrate simple experiences and series of events to convey its essence and intention and present ideas coherently, confidently and with clarity in debates, discussions and interviews.

Module 1:

1. I am all ears: Listen to the correct pronunciation of words including its stress and accent.
2. Let me try: Comprehend the meaning of words, phrases and sentences and use them in real-life situations.

Module 2:

1. I am all ears: Listen to simple narratives, conversations and descriptions
2. Understand the gist/central idea of these narratives and descriptions and convert into various other discourses.

Module 3:

1. Role-play a typical workplace situation using proper language functions.
2. Speak with ease using the language functions needed for different situations.

Module 4:

1. Speak with ease simple experiences and events with correct grammar.
2. Take part in debates and discussions confidently and convey the intended meaning effectively.
