Types of foundries.<br \/>\n<strong>PATTERNS<\/strong>: Materials for patterns, types of patterns; functions and pattern allowance. <strong>MOULDING MATERIAL<\/strong>S: Moulding sands, properties and selection of materials and additives used.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II : Learning Objectives<\/strong>: To know indetail about various casting processes and properties in molds. Gating and risering in molds.<br \/>\n<strong>CASTING PROCESSES AND EQUIPMENT<\/strong>: Green and dry sand moulding; shell moulding, CO2 moulding. Core moulds and cores. Plaster mould casting, composite mould casting, Investment casting.<br \/>\n<strong>GATING AND RISERING<\/strong>: Gate nomenclature, gate types and types of risers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT III : Learning Objectives:<\/strong> Study of different molding processes and their equipment\u00a0Permanent mould casting, pressure die-casting, Gravity die-casting and centrifugal casting, Types of moulding equipment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT IV : Learning Objective<\/strong>s: Solidification of metals and alloys and melting practices to be studied<br \/>\n<strong>SOLIDIFICATION OF METALS<\/strong>: Nucleation crystal growth. Effect on chemical composition, carbon equivalent and effect of alloying elements on foundry characteristics. Melting of non-ferrous alloys: Melting of Aluminium and copper alloys production processes: Production of Gray Iron, ductile iron. Malleable iron castings<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT V : Learning Objectives:<\/strong> Various casting defects and their prevention to be studied<br \/>\nCASTING DEFECTS: Casting defects arising due to moulding, coring melting and poring practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNITI VI : Learning Objectives<\/strong>: Study of modern molding processes to be studied<br \/>\n<strong>MODERN DEVELOPMENTS:<\/strong> Recently developed processes &#8211; v- forming full mould process &#8211; Furon-no-bake sand moulds and cores.
