ENGINES :<\/strong> Classification &#8211; Working principles, Valve and Port Timing Diagrams, &#8211; Engine systems \u2013 Fuel, Carburetor, Fuel Injection System, Ignition, Cooling and Lubrication, principle of wankle engine, principles of supercharging and turbocharging.<br \/>\n<strong>Combustion in S.I. Engines:<\/strong> Normal Combustion and abnormal combustion \u2013 Importance of flame speed\u00a0and effect of engine variables \u2013 Type of Abnormal combustion, pre-ignition and knocking. Fuel requirements and fuel rating, anti knock additives \u2013 combustion chamber \u2013 requirements, types.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 II :\u00a0Objectives:<\/strong> To make the student learn to perform testing on S.I and C.I Engines for the calculations of performance and emission parameters. Measurement, Testing and Performance: Parameters of performance &#8211; measurement of cylinder pressure, fuel consumption, air intake, exhaust gas composition, Brake power \u2013 Determination of frictional losses and indicated power \u2013 Performance test \u2013 Heat balance sheet and chart.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 III : Objectives:<\/strong> To impart the knowledge of gas turbine fundamentals, the governing cycles and the efficiency improvement techniques.<br \/>\n<strong>GAS TURBINES:<\/strong> Simple gas turbine plant \u2013 open and closed cycle arrangements &#8211; ideal cycle and their analysis &#8211; essential components \u2013 parameters of performance \u2013 actual cycles and their analysis \u2013 regeneration, inter cooling and reheating \u2013 merits and demerits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 IV : Objectives:<\/strong> To make the student learn about the geometrical and operational details of the compressors that are used in aeronautical field.<br \/>\n<strong>COMPRESSORS:<\/strong> Centrifugal compressors: Essential parts-principle of operation, flow analysis-performance parameters- losses and characteristics.<br \/>\n<strong>Axial compressors:<\/strong> Essential parts-principle of operation, flow analysis-performance parameters- losses and characteristics \u2013 comparison between axial and centrifugal compressors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 V : Objectives:<\/strong> The make the student understand the fundamentals of combustion theory and types of combustion chambers of gas turbines.<br \/>\n<strong>COMBUSTION\u00a0SYSTEM:<\/strong>\u00a0Combustion theory \u2013 combustion chamber requirements &#8211; factors affecting combustion chamber design &amp; performance \u2013\u2013 combustion chamber geometry &amp; types.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 VI : Objectives:<\/strong> The student shall understand the operation and construction of types of steam turbines.
