Further there are exposed to the importance of metrology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 I : Objective:<\/strong> The fundamentals of metal cutting and forces involved will be given enough exposer to the student.\u00a0Elementary treatment of metal cutting theory \u2013 element of cutting process \u2013 geometry of single point tool angles, chip formation and types of chips \u2013 built up edge and its effects chip breakers, mechanics of orthogonal cutting \u2013Merchant\u2019s force diagram, cutting forces, cutting speeds, feed, depth of cut, tool life, coolants, tool materials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 II : Objective:<\/strong> the students are to be exposed the fundamental concepts of Engine Lathe and its various operations that can be performed. Engine Lathe :\u2013 principle of working, specification of lathe \u2013 types of lathe \u2013 work holders tool holders \u2013 operations performed- box tools taper turning, thread turning \u2013 for lathes and attachments, turret and capstan lathes \u2013 collet chucks \u2013 other work holding \u2013 tool holding devices. Principal features of automatic lathes \u00a0classification \u2013 single spindle and multi-spindle automatic lathes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 III : Objective:<\/strong> the students are to be exposed the fundamental concepts of Shaping, Slotting, and Planning, Drilling and boring machines and its various operations that can be performed Shaping, slotting and planning machines: Principles of working \u2013 principal parts \u2013 specifications, operations performed, machining time calculations. Drilling &amp; Boring machines: Principles of working, specifications, types, operations performed \u2013 tool holding devices \u2013 twist drill \u2013 Boring Machines \u2013 jig boring machine, deep hole Drilling Machine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 IV : Objective:<\/strong> the students are to be exposed the fundamental concepts of Milling machines, grinding machines and its various operations that can be performed Milling machine: Principles of working \u2013 specifications \u2013 classification of Milling Machines \u2013 machining operations, types of cutters and geometry. Grinding: Theory of grinding \u2013 classification of grinding machines, different types of abrasives, bonds, specification and selection of a grinding wheel. Lapping, Honing &amp; Broaching operations, comparison to grinding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-V : Objective:<\/strong> The students are to be exposed to the fundamental concepts and systems of limits and tolerances and measurement instruments.<br \/>\n<strong>SYSTEMS OF LIMITS AND FITS:<\/strong> Introduction, nominal size, tolerance, limits, deviations, fits and their types-unilateral and bilateral tolerance system, hole and shaft basis systems- interchangeability. Linear measurement: Length standards, end standards, slip gauges- calibration of the slip gauges, dial indicators, micrometers. Measurement of angles and tapers: Different methods \u2013 bevel protractor, angle slip gauges- clinometer Limit gauges: Taylor\u2019s principle \u2013 design of go and no go gauges; plug, ring, snap, gap, taper, profile and position gauges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-VI : Objective:<\/strong> The students are to be exposed the fundamental concepts of optical measuring instruments and surface measurement instruments Optical measurement instruments: Tools maker\u2019s microscope and uses &#8211; collimators, optical\u00a0projector, optical flats and their uses. Surface roughness measurement: Differences between surface roughness and surface waviness.
