The objective is to study and understand the combustion phenomena to increase combustion efficiency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 I: Objective:<\/strong> The objective is to introduce the use and the application of different fuel types and characteristics. The student will be able to understand various fuel handling and storage methods.<br \/>\n<strong>FUELS<\/strong>: Detailed classification \u2013 Conventional and Unconventional Solid, Liquid, gaseous fuels and nuclear fuels \u2013 Origin of Coal \u2013 Analysis of coal. Coal \u2013 Carburisation, Gasification and liquification \u2013 Lignite, properties of coal, action of heat on coal, oxidation of coal, hydrogenation of coal, efficient use of solid fuels, manufactured fuels, agro fuels, solid fuel handling, properties related to combustion, handling and storage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unit-II : Objective:<\/strong> The objective is to expose the student about petroleum refining and conversion process in general and in India in particulars. Origin and classification of Petroleum, refining and other conversion processes, composition of petroleum with respect to combustion, property and testing of petroleum products, various petroleum products, Nature of Indian Crudes &amp; Petroleum refining in India, storage and handling of liquid fuels, liquid fuels combustion equipment. \u2016Types of gaseous fuels, Natural gases, methane from coal mine, Producer gas, water gas, blast furnace gas, LPG.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 III : Objective:<\/strong> The objective is to make the students study and understand basic principles of combustion and chemical kinetics.<br \/>\n<strong>PRINCIPLES OF COMBUSTION:<\/strong> Chemical composition \u2013 Flue gas analysis \u2013 dew point of products \u2013 Stoichiometry Stoichiometry relations, theoretical air required for complete combustion, Chemical kinetics \u2013 Rate of reaction \u2013 Reaction order \u2013 Molecularity \u2013 Zeroth, first, second and third order reactions &#8211; complex reactions \u2013 chain reactions. Theories of reaction Kinetics \u2013 General oxidation behaviour of HC\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 IV : Objective:<\/strong> The objective is to make the students study thermodynamics of combustion process and calculate adiabatic flame temperature.<br \/>\n<strong>THERMODYNAMICS OF COMBUSTION:<\/strong> Enthalpy of formation \u2013 Heating value of fuel \u2013 determination of heating value of fuels-Adiabatic flame Temperature \u2013chemical equilibrium, Equilibrium composition of gaseous mixtures. Combustion analysis- problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 V : Objective:<\/strong> The objective is to study flame propagation, factors effecting the flame propagation of various kinds of fuels.<br \/>\n<strong>LAMINAR AND TURBULENT FLAMES PROPAGATION AND STRUCTURE:<\/strong> Flame stability \u2013 Burning velocity of fuels \u2013 Measurement of burning velocity \u2013 factors affecting the burning velocity. Flame Propagation &#8211; Solid, Liquid &amp; Gaseous Fuels Combustion &#8211; Flame Temperature &#8211; Theoretical, Adiabatic &amp; Actual &#8211; Ignition Limits &#8211; Limits of Inflammability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unit-VI : Objective:<\/strong> The students are to be exposed to various combustion systems and design of burners\u00a0for different kinds of fuels. Combustion of fuel, droplets and sprays \u2013 Combustion systems \u2013 Pulverized fuel furnaces \u2013 fixed, Entrained and Fluidised Bed Systems. Burner Design: Basic features of solid, liquid and gaseous fuel burner, design consideration of different types of coal, oil and gas burners, recuperative and regenerative burners<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The students completing the course will be able to understand the various kinds of fuels, their characteristics and origin.
