The distinctions between the eastern and western architecture styles are focused.<\/li>\n<li>The salient features of Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Indian Vedic, Indus valley civilization, Buddhist, Hindu and Indo-Sarsanic Architecture are introduced.<\/li>\n<li>Architectural design concepts, principles of planning and composition are imparted.<\/li>\n<li>To enable the student to understand town planning from ancien times to modern times.<\/li>\n<li>To impart the concepts of town planning standards, land scaping and expansion of towns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course Outcomes<\/strong><br \/>\nUpon the successful completion of this course:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The student should be able to distinguish architectural styles of eastern and western world.<\/li>\n<li>The student should understand the importance of Orders of architecture.<\/li>\n<li>Should be able to compose spaces of buildings using design concepts, planning principles.<\/li>\n<li>Should understand the town planning standards, landscaping features and regulations controlling expansion of the towns and the cities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SYLLABUS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 I : History of Architecture<\/strong>: Western Architecture:Egyptian, Greek, Roman Architectures- Orders. Indian Architecture: Vedic age, Indus valley civilization\u2013 Buddhist period: Stambas, Stupa, Toranas, Chaityas, Viharas \u2013 Hindu temples: Dravidian and Indo Aryan Styles-Temple of Aihole, Madurai, Bhuvaneshwar, Mount Abu. Indo Sarsanic (Islamic) Architecture: Mosque &#8211; Palace &#8211; Fort &#8211; Tomb.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 II : Architectural Design:<\/strong> Principles of designing \u2013 Composition of Plan \u2013 relationship between plan and elevation- building elements, form, surface texture, mass, line, color, tone- Principles of Composition: Unity, contrast, proportion, scale, balance, circulation, rhythm, character, expression.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT &#8211; III : Principles of Planning:<\/strong> Principles of planninga residence- site selection, site orientation- aspect, prospect, grouping, circulation, privacy, furniture requirements, services and other factors. Post-classic Architecture: Introduction of post-classic architectur contribution of eminent architects to modern period-Edward Lutyens, Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wrigt, Walter Groping.<\/p>\n<p>UNIT \u2013 IV : Histroical Back Ground of Town Planning: Town planning in India \u2013 Town plans of mythological Manasa-Town plans of ancient towns: Harappa, Mohenjodaro, Pataliputra, Delhi, Acropolis (Greece), Jerusalem, Mecca, Rome, London.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 V : Modern Town Planning:<\/strong> Zoning- Roads and road traffic- Housing- Slums, Parks, Play grounds- Public Utility Services- Surveys and maps for planning- Neighborhood Planning.
