Design of fillet weld subjected to moment acting in the plane and at right angles to the plane of the joints.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 II : Beams:<\/strong> Allowable stresses, design requirements as per IS Code-Design of simple and compound beams-Curtailment of flange plates, Beam to beam connection, check for deflection, shear, buckling, check for bearing, laterally unsupported beams.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013III : Tension Members and compression members:<\/strong> General Design of members subjected to direct tension and bending \u2013effective length of columns. Slenderness ratio \u2013 permissible stresses. Design of compression members, struts etc.Roof Trusses: Different types of trusses \u2013 Design loads \u2013 Load combinations as per IS Code recommendations, structural details \u2013Design of simple roof trusses involving the design of purlins, members and joints \u2013 tubular trusses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 IV : Design of Columns:<\/strong> Built up compression members \u2013 Design of lacings and battens. Design Principles of Eccentrically loaded columns, Splicing of columns.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 V : Design of Column Foundations:<\/strong> Design of slab base and gusseted base. Column bases subjected moment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 VI : Design of Plate Girder:<\/strong> Design consideration \u2013 I S Code recommendations Design of plate girder-Welded \u2013 Curtailment of flange plates, stiffeners \u2013 splicing and connections. Design of Gantry Girder: impact factors &#8211; longitudinal forces, Design of Gantry girders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Welding connections should be used in Units II \u2013 VI.<\/p>\n<p>The students should prepare the following plates.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plate 1 Detailing of simple beams<\/li>\n<li>Plate 2 Detailing of Compound beams including curtailment of flange plates.<\/li>\n<li>Plate 3 Detailing of Column including lacing and battens.<\/li>\n<li>Plate 4 Detailing of Column bases \u2013 slab base and gusseted base<\/li>\n<li>Plate 5 Detailing of steel roof trusses including joint details.<\/li>\n<li>Plate 6 Detailing of Plate girder including curtailment, splicing and stiffeners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>INTERNAL EXAMINATION PATTERN<\/strong>:<br \/>\nThe total internal marks (30) are distributed in three components as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Descriptive (subjective type) examination: 25 marks<\/li>\n<li>Assignment: 05 marks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>FINAL EXAMINATION PATTERN:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The end examination paper should consist of Part A and Part B. part A consist of two questions in Design and Drawing out of which one question is to be answered. Part B should consist of five questions and design out of which three are to be answered.
