I Year II Sem.\r\n\r\n<strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>To understand the various Non-Conventional sources of energy<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To explain the DC to DC converters for Solar PV source of energy<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To explain the inverters and its control techniques for a grid connected system<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To understand the characteristics of a solar PV and wind power sources<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To explain the types of distributed generators and batteries in DG and micro grid system<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Course Outcomes:<\/strong> Upon the completion of the course the student will be able to\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>To acquire knowledge on Non-Conventional energy sources<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To analyze various technologies and for renewable energy systems<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To develop stand alone DG sets and micro grid systems from renewable energy sources<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; I : Introduction to renewable sources:<\/strong> world energy scenario, Wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, availability and power extraction. Introduction to solar energy: Photovoltaic effect, basics of power generation, P-V &amp;I-V characteristics, effect of insolation, temperature, diurnal variation, shading, Modules, connections, ratings, Power extraction (MPP) tracking and MPPT schemes; standalone systems, grid interface, storage, AC-DC loads.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; II : DC-DC converters for solar PV:<\/strong> buck\/boost\/buck-boost \/flyback \/forward\/cuk, bidirectional converters, Interleaved and multi-input converters.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; III : Grid connected Inverters:<\/strong> 1ph, 3ph inverters with &amp; w\/o x\u2019mer, Heric, H6, Multilevel Neutral point clamp, Modular multilevel, CSI; Control schemes: unipolar, bipolar, PLL and synchronization, power balancing \/ bypass, Parallel power processing; Grid connection issues: leakage current, Islanding, harmonics, active\/reactive power feeding, unbalance.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; IV : Introduction to wind energy:<\/strong> P-V, I-V characteristic, wind power system: turbine-generator-inverter, mechanical control, ratings; Power extraction (MPP) and MPPT schemes. Generators for wind: DC generator with DC to AC converters; Induction generator with &amp; w\/o converter.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; V : Synchronous generator with back to back controlled\/ uncontrolled converter;<\/strong> Doubly fed induction generator with rotor side converter topologies; permanent magnet based generators.
