I Year II Sem.\r\n\r\n<strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>To know the necessity of conservation of energy<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To generalize the methods of energy management<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To illustrate the factors to increase the efficiency of electrical equipment<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To detect the benefits of carrying out energy audits.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Course Outcomes:<\/strong> Upon the completion of this course, the student will be able to\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Tell energy audit of industries<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Predict management of energy systems<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Sequence the methods of improving efficiency of electric motor<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Analyze the power factor and to design a good illumination system<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Determine pay back periods for energy saving equipment<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>UNIT- I: Basic Principles of Energy Audit:<\/strong> Energy audit- definitions, concept , types of audit, energy index, cost index ,pie charts, Sankey diagrams, load profiles, Energy conservation schemes- Energy audit of industries- energy saving potential, energy audit of process industry, thermal power station, building energy audit.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT- II: Energy Management:<\/strong> Principles of energy management, organizing energy management program, initiating, planning, controlling, promoting, monitoring, reporting- Energy manger, Qualities and functions, language, Questionnaire \u2013 check list for top management.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT- III: Energy Efficient Motors:<\/strong> Energy efficient motors, factors affecting efficiency, loss distribution , constructional details , characteristics &#8211; variable speed , variable duty cycle systems, RMS hp- voltage variation-voltage unbalance- over motoring- motor energy audit\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT- IV: Power Factor Improvement, Lighting and Energy Instruments:<\/strong> Power factor \u2013 methods of improvement, location of capacitors, pf with non linear loads, effect of harmonics on power factor, power factor motor controllers &#8211; Good lighting system design and practice, lighting control, lighting energy audit &#8211; Energy Instruments- wattmeter, data loggers, thermocouples, pyrometers, lux meters, tongue testers ,application of PLC\u2019s.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT- V: Economic Aspects and Analysis:<\/strong> Economics Analysis-Depreciation Methods, time value of money, rate of return , present worth method , replacement analysis, life cycle costing analysis- Energy efficient motors- calculation of simple payback method, net present worth method- Power factor correction, lighting &#8211; Applications of life cycle costing analysis, return on investment .\r\n\r\n<strong>TEXT BOOKS:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Energy management by W.R.
