I Year I Sem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-I:<\/strong> Introduction to FEM, basic concepts, historical back ground, applications of FEM, general description, comparison of FEM with other methods, variational approach, Glerkin\u2019s Methods. Co-ordinates, basic element shapes, interpolation function, Virtual energy principle, Rayleigh \u2013 Ritz method, properties of stiffness matrix, treatment of boundary conditions, solution of system of equations, shape functions and characteristics, Basic equations of elasticity, strain- displacement relations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-II:<\/strong> 1-D Structural Problems: Axial bar element \u2013 stiffness matrix, load vector, temperature effects, Quadratic shape functions and problems. Analysis of Trusses: Plane Trusses and Space Truss elements and problems Analysis of BECAD\/CAM: Hermite shape functions \u2013 stiffness matrix \u2013 Load vector \u2013 Problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT-III:\u00a0<\/strong>2-D problems: CST, LST, force terms, Stiffness matrix and load vectors, boundary conditions, Isoparametric elements \u2013 quadrilateral element, shape functions \u2013 Numerical Integration.
