I Year I Sem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong> To impart Knowledge on Advanced Water Treatment Processes along with conventional water treatment system and also to focus on distribution systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Outcomes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of design kinetics of sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection process.<\/li>\n<li>Theoretical outlook on advanced water treatment processes and the related Chemistry<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge on design of distribution networks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UNIT I : Principles of Sedimentation \u2013<\/strong> Classes of Sedimentation Factors affecting efficiency concepts of tube settlers, flow dispersion patterns, sludge removal devices, coagulation-stability of colloids \u2013theory of coagulation \u2013 coagulant aids \u2013dosing and mixing devices \u2013 velocity gradients \u2013 design of clarifioculator units- flotation \u2013 diffused air flotation and dissolved air flotation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT II : Theory of filtration \u2013<\/strong> Hydraulics of flow through porous media, backwashing, different types of filters, components, and appurtenances. Filtrability index, mathematical modeling, Design of filters slow \/ rapid \/ multimedia filters \u2013 filter kinetics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT III : Theory of disinfection \u2013<\/strong> factors affecting disinfection \u2013 kinetics of disinfection \u2013 types of chlorine compounds \u2013 chlorination chemistry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT IV : Advanced treatment systems \u2013<\/strong> principles of aeration \u2013 theories of adsorption \u2013 Principles of mass transfer, adsorption Isotherms, rate of Sorption, activated carbon, ion exchange process \u2013 materials, reactions, operatic methods and applications, removal of Hardness, Iron, requirement of Chemicals.
