I Year I Sem.\r\n\r\n<strong>Prerequisite:<\/strong>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Basic band gap, energy systems<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Mechanics of solids, metallurgy and materials science<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<strong>Course Objectives:\u00a0<\/strong>To familiarize students with material characterization techniques and its importance and to get exposure with various techniques of characterization and interpretation of results including standards etc.,\r\n\r\n<strong>Course Outcomes:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>To bring out the importance of material characterization and various methods<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To bring out electrical, thermal and other characterization techniques.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To familiarize about various equipment.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Unit \u2013 I : Compositional and structural Characterization techniques:<\/strong> X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), Principles and applications of X-ray diffraction; electron diffraction, Electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), Ion beam techniques: SIMS &amp; RBS. Case studies.\r\n\r\n<strong>Unit \u2013 II : Advanced Microscopy Techniques<\/strong> for Nano materials Characterization High resolution microscopy; Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM).\r\n\r\n<strong>Unit \u2013 III : Spectroscopic techniques:<\/strong> UV- Visible Spectroscopy, Photo-luminescence Spectroscopy, Mossbauer spectroscopy, Fourier Transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy techniques: micro Raman and laser Raman.
