I Year I Sem.\r\n\r\n<strong>Course Objective<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>To provide necessary knowledge about the modeling, design and analysis of various PV systems<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To show that PV is an economically viable, environmentally sustainable alternative to the world&#8217;s energy supplies<\/li>\r\n \t<li>To understand the power conditioning of PV and WEC system\u2019s power output<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Course Outcome:<\/strong> After Completion of the course the student is able to\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Model, analyze and design various photovoltaic systems<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Know the feasibility of PV systems as an alternative to the fossil fuels<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Design efficient stand alone and grid connected PV and WEC power systems<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; I : Introduction To Photovoltaic (PV) Systems<\/strong>: Historical development of PV systems- Overview of PV usage in the world Photovoltaic effect-conversion of solar energy into electrical energy. Solar Cells And Arrays: Behavior of solar cells-basic structure and characteristics: types &#8211; equivalent circuit-modeling of solar cells including the effects of temperature, irradiation and series\/shunt resistances on the open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current-Solar cell arrays- PV modules-PV generators- shadow effects and bypass diodes- hot spot problem in a PV module and safe operating area- Terrestrial PV module modeling- Interfacing PV modules with different loads.\r\n\r\n<strong>UNIT &#8211; II : Energy Storage Alternatives for PV Systems:<\/strong> Methods of Energy storage \u2013Pumped Energy Storage \u2013 Compressed Energy Storage \u2013 Storage batteries- lead-acid- nickel cadmium-nickel-metal hydride and lithium type batteries.
