He\/she<br \/>\nwill learn to do elementary calculations for engineering application of fluid motion. This course also prepares the<br \/>\nstudent for more advanced courses such as Aerodynamics- I &amp; -II.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>UNIT I\u00a0Fluid Properties:<\/strong><\/span> Density, specific weight , specific gravity, surface tension &amp; capillarity, Newton\u2019s law of\u00a0viscosity, incompressible &amp; compressible fluid, numerical problems.\u00a0Hydrostatic forces on submerged bodies: Pressure at a point, Pascal\u2019s law, pressure variation with\u00a0temperature and height, Center of pressure on vertical, inclined and curved surfaces.\u00a0Manometers- simple and differential manometers, inverted manometers, micro manometers, Pressure gauges\u00a0and numerical problems. Buoyancy- Archimedes\u2019s Principle, Metacenter, meta centric height calculations.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">UNIT II\u00a0Fluid Kinematics<\/span><\/strong>: Stream line, path line, streak line, stream surface, stream tube, classification of flows: steady,\u00a0unsteady, uniform, non uniform, laminar, turbulent flows. One dimensional approximation, examples of real 1-D<br \/>\nflows, two dimensional approximation, 2-D flow in wind tunnel, continuity equations for 1-D and 2-D flows both\u00a0compressible and incompressible, stream function for two dimensional incompressible flows. Vorticity, irrotational\u00a0flow, Velocity potential function.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>UNIT III\u00a0Fluid Dynamics<\/strong><\/span>: Surface &amp; body forces, substantive derivative, local derivative and convective derivative,\u00a0momentum equation, Euler equation, Bernoulli\u2019s equation, .Phenomenological basis of Navier-Stokes equation,<br \/>\nIntroduction to vortex flows.
