III Year II Sem. \u00a0 L\/T\/P\/C<br \/>\nCourse Code:NT621OE \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 3\/0\/0\/3<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Overview<\/strong><br \/>\nCourse covers a systems approach to managing activities associated with traffic,\u00a0transportation, inventory management, warehousing, packaging, order processing, and\u00a0materials handling. This course is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding\u00a0of the issues involved in the design of an industrial production system. It will cover the\u00a0problems in plant location, product analysis, process design, equipment selection, materials\u00a0handling, and plant layout.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To develop competency for system visualization and design.<\/li>\n<li>To enable student to design cylinders and pressure vessels and to use IS code.<\/li>\n<li>To enable student select materials and to design internal engine components.<\/li>\n<li>To introduce student to optimum design and use optimization methods to design\u00a0mechanical components.<\/li>\n<li>To enable student to design machine tool gearbox.<\/li>\n<li>To enable student to design material handling systems.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Ability to apply the statistical considerations in design and analyze the defects and\u00a0failure modes in<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course Outcomes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate ability to successfully complete Fork Lift Certification to safely and\u00a0effectively operate in the manufacturing environment.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate proficiency in supply chain operations, utilizing appropriate methods to\u00a0plan and implement processes necessary for the purchase and conveyance of goods in\u00a0a timely and cost-effective manner<\/li>\n<li>It explains about the different types of material handling, advantages and\u00a0disadvantages. It also suggests the selection procedure for the material handling along\u00a0with its specifications.<\/li>\n<li>Need for Material handling also explained with different techniques like Automated\u00a0Material handling Design Program, Computerized material handling Planning will be\u00a0dealt.<\/li>\n<li>The Material handling is explained with models, selection procedure of material\u00a0handling is depending on different function oriented systems. This also related with\u00a0plant layout by which the minimization of the handling charges will come down.<\/li>\n<li>The ergonomics related to material handling equipment about design and\u00a0miscellaneous equipments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 I :\u00a0<\/strong>Types of intraplant transporting facility, principal groups of material handling equipments,<br \/>\nchoice of material handling equipment, hoisting equipment, screw type, hydraulic and\u00a0pneumatic conveyors, general characteristics of hoisting machines, surface and overhead\u00a0equipments, general characteristics of surface and overhead equipments and their\u00a0applications. Introduction to control of hoisting equipments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT \u2013 II:<\/strong>\u00a0Flexible hoisting appliances like ropes and chains, welded load chains, roller chains, selection<br \/>\nof chains hemp rope and steel wire rope, selection of ropes, fastening of hain sand ropes ,\u00a0different types of load suspension appliances, fixed and movable pulleys, different types of\u00a0pulley systems, multiple pulley systems .
