This gives the details about credits, number of hours and other details along with reference books for the course.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed syllabus for Engineering Metrology B.Tech 2016-2017 (R16) third year second sem is as follows.<\/p>\n<p>B.Tech. III Year II Sem. \u00a0 L\/T\/P\/C<br \/>\nCourse Code:NT601PC \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 4\/1\/0\/4<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course overview:<\/strong> To provide a basic understanding of the wide range of activities<br \/>\nencompassed by personnel working in standards and calibration laboratories. It covers the\u00a0measurement process, types and correct use of measurement and test equipment, and\u00a0measurement standards. It provides an opportunity for students to learn about measurement\u00a0uncertainty and risk analysis.<\/p>\n<p>The course includes the procedures necessary to set up and to\u00a0have knowledge on calibration. At the end of this subject the student is expected: It is\u00a0expected to enforce, validate and verify predefined standards for traceability, accuracy,\u00a0reliability, and precision. All of these are factors that would affect the validity of\u00a0measurement. Although these standards vary widely, these are mandated by the government,\u00a0the agencies, and some treaties. Consequently, these standards are verified and tested against\u00a0a recognized quality system in calibration laboratories<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To be familiar with the different instruments those are available for linear, angular,\u00a0roundness and roughness measurements.<\/li>\n<li>To be able to select and use the appropriate measuring instrument according to a\u00a0specific requirement (in terms of accuracy, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>It is the aim of this course to provide students with practical skills associated with\u00a0each of these areas. Metrology activities include precision measurement of component\u00a0features, form and geometry utilizing specialized measuring instruments and\u00a0equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Effectively designing product processing methods.<\/li>\n<li>To enhance the ability of students to apply scientific methods of protection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course Outcomes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduates will demonstrate basic knowledge in mathematics, science and engineering<\/li>\n<li>Graduates will demonstrate an understanding of their professional and ethical\u00a0responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Graduates will demonstrate the ability to function on engineering and science\u00a0laboratory teams, as well as on multidisciplinary design teams<\/li>\n<li>Graduates will demonstrate the ability to identify, formulate and solve mechanical\u00a0engineering problems<\/li>\n<li>Graduates will have the confidence to apply engineering solutions in global and\u00a0societal contexts. Graduates should be capable of self-education and clearly\u00a0understand the value of life-long learning. Graduates will have ability to communicate\u00a0in written, oral and graphical forms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UNIT &#8211; I : Systems of limits and fits:<\/strong> Introduction, normal size, tolerance limits, deviations, allowance,\u00a0fits and their types &#8211; unilateral and bilateral tolerance system, hole and shaft basis systems -interchangeability and selective assembly. Indian standard Institution system &#8211; British\u00a0standard system, International Standard system for plain ad screwed work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT &#8211; II:\u00a0Linear Measurement:<\/strong> Length standard, line and end standard, slip gauges &#8211; calibration of\u00a0the slip gauges, Dial indicator, micrometers. Measurement of Angles and Tapers: Different\u00a0methods &#8211; Bevel protractor &#8211; angle slip gauges &#8211; spirit levels &#8211; sine bar &#8211; Sine plate, rollers and\u00a0spheres used to determine the tapers. Limit Gauges: Taylor\u2019s principle &#8211; Design of go and\u00a0No go gauges, plug ring, snap, gap, taper, profile and position gauges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIT &#8211; III :\u00a0Optical Measuring Instruments:<\/strong> Tool maker&#8217;s microscope and its uses &#8211; collimators, optical\u00a0projector &#8211; optical flats and their uses, interferometer.
